With the end of the year looming, I've had some time to think about what I want next year to be.
Though I haven't put pen to paper and ironed out details, I do have a general idea of what I want to accomplish. However, I have similar ideas every year, and I never follow through.
So, this year, my number one resolution is to stop letting myself down.
By that I mean - Kick myself in the ass every so often. Set goals and stick to them. Find a way to keep myself motivated. If I don't hold myself to my own word - what right do I have to keep others to theirs?
I'm looking forward to having my husband on board with me this year. He seems to be getting excited to start the new year off right, which excites me in return. Yes, we have the generic 'lose weight,' 'eat better,' 'save money,' type resolutions, but this year, I am going to be a lot more specific with them. Like, 'Lose 50 pounds this year.' And I will even go further by saying something like, 'Lose 50 pounds this year by losing 4.5 pounds a month.'
When it's broken down like that, it doesn't seem so insurmountable...
I do need to do more with saving money, and finding a new job, and the like. So my goal for today and Friday is so really get in there and break things down. Set attainable goals so that I am able to work toward something big, but I see the little accomplishments along the way.
How do you motivate yourself or others? I want to stay away from monetary rewards, at least in the beginning... It kind of negates the purpose of trying to save money, right?
I am very proud of myself for realizing this weakness I have. I need to remember that not everything is immediate. If something is worth doing, it's worth doing right and for the right reasons. I'm very much looking forward to 2011. I think it's going to be a good year.
I hope you have much success in the New Year!
ReplyDeleteHow do I motivate myself? hmm. I don't make resolutions.
ReplyDeleteI start out doing changes and then I burn out. I found if I take conscious steps to nurture myself then I don't burn out. One way I do this is to do something nurturing for myself that is physical, something mental, something spiritual and something emotional. That might look like
take a walk at the beach
read a fun book
meditate and
send a letter to a friend.
Happy New Year!
